Bunny and Jim in Colorado

Bunny, Jim, Allison, Robby, Dallas and Adelaide in Colorado

The Moffitt Experience has moved to The Shaw Clinic in Edwards, Colorado.  Moffitt is nice but you can't beat looking out at the Rocky Mountains from The Shaw Clinic.  The weather is beautiful and Bunny and Jim are having a wonderful time spending time with friends here.  They will be in Colorado for the next 6 weeks.

Your mom would like this on the blog

Allison,

Thank you for letting me visit as a guest blogger and thanks to you and Blake for all the work you did to help make Bunny's Carats participation in Miles for Moffitt a remarkable success.

Though my new chemotherapy is not as user-friendly as the first five months of treatment have been, the fact that there is a "new" treatment is a testament to the work at Moffitt and those that generously support cancer research.

The morning of the walk, when the Miles for Moffitt staff announced our team was first in fundraising and second in team size I was thrilled and I want to thank all of my family and friends for participating. Bunny's Carats, our team, donated almost $21,000 to insure that for those of us fighting cancer there will always be a new treatment; another chance for remission. I will cherish always the memory of my early morning, bunny-eared loved ones in their fabulously fashionable purple shirts walking for 'a girl's best friend'….a cure.

But that is not the only time I think of you all, because every other Monday when I walk down the hospital halls to the infusion center I see and feel the difference Bunny's Carats will make in the lives of others. I see it in the hopeful faces in the family waiting area that will be blessed by your donation and your willingness to join me in this fight.

I'm certain they would like to thank you too!

These past few weeks have not been easy and it is your continued love and support that sustains me.  Jim and I value your friendship and dedication. Thank you again to everyone for making a difference in the lives of so many,

Bunny….

Miles For Moffitt Update

I just found out that Bunny's Carats team meeting area will not be next to the McDonald's Arches.  We will have a tent in the shade "under the trees".  I am going to have a bunch of purple balloons tied to it so it will be easy to find.  If you have any questions you can check out milesformoffitt.com or email me at adamsallison@mac.com.  See you soon!

As the doctor predicted the first chemo round is no longer effective against the cancer.  So we are starting on a new chemo drug that will enable Bunny and me to spend July and August in Cordillera.  The doctor said that Bunny's did better than average on the first chemo drug, so we expect the same results from this new treatment.  Thanks again for all your love, support and prayers.

Miles for Moffitt Information

May 15th is quickly approaching, so I thought I would update you all on what is planned for the walk.  We will have a small tent for our group to meet before the 5k walk/run begins at 8am.  If you signed up for the 1 mile walk, it begins at 8:30am.  The tent will be located close to the giant inflatable McDonald's arches.  They are huge and should be easy to find!

We will have bunny ears and special t-shirts for the group in the tent.  You can get a sneak preview of the shirts tonight on Channel 10 News at 6pm when they do a story about Bunny's Carats.

We will also have breakfast from McDonald's in the tent.  Just the healthy stuff. :)

Your registration packets can be picked up ahead of time from designated spots around town.  The spots are listed on the miles for moffitt website.  You can also pick them up on the day of the race between 6am and 7am.

I look forward to seeing you all next Saturday!  If you have any questions, my email is adamsallison@mac.com

Channel 8 and MacDill Chaplain

Only Bunny could turn a Greek Salad, love of country, and her outgoing nature into a sermon!
Last week, Jim and Bunny’s tradition of paying for the meal of a uniform soldier, took a divine turn.  While buying her lunch at a local Greek restaurant, Bunny reached across two men in line, dressed in desert camouflages, added their meal to her tab, and thanked them for serving our country.  As usually occurs, they expressed gratitude and appreciation for her random act of kindness. But in a curious twist, one soldier asked if he could “do anything for her?”  Bunny assured him that he does that every day by protecting America. They parted ways; only to meet again, a few minutes later, getting napkins and iced tea.
“You know,” Bunny said, “you can do something for me. I have a terminal illness and you can pray for me.”
Turning face- to- face for the first time, his wide eyes and white collar were now noticeable, the young, Assistant to the Chaplain at MacDill Air Force Base assured her that he already had prayed for her…and would continue to make her part of his daily conversation with the Lord.  Bunny and Tony DeVoile, the young assistant’s name, shared contact information and agreed their meeting was both a good thing, and a God Thing.
It wasn’t long before this conversation went public!
Tony off to tell the Senior Chaplain at MacDill AFB; Bunny off to tell her prayer circle. But it didn’t stop there. The story spread quickly through South Tampa and MacDill Air Force Base, and to all that heard it or retold it, it became evident this meeting was more than casual coincidence.
Last Sunday it was incorporated into a Palma Ceia Presbyterian sermon and this morning Bunny, Chaplain Assistant Tony, and Senior Chaplain Dr. Bill Coker sat down together with  local news Channel 8 to share this story with our community.  It will air as part of a series, hoping to encourage others facing life’s tribulations or at the very least, remind all of us to tell our men and women in uniform that we are truly grateful for their sacrifice.
Leave it to Bunny

The chemo keeps working.  Bunny's tumor marker has decreased again, from 101,000 to 47,000.  Bunny's original CA 19-9 count last fall was 350,000, so she has dropped over 300,000 points since treatment began.
I know that Bunny's continued recovery  is not just the result of the Gemzar, but because of the support and prayers from all of you that has made all the difference.  Bunny has also proven how important her amazing strength and positive attitude are in this fight.
For those of you who haven't gone to the blog, please do, the link is: http://bunnysmoffittexperience.blogspot.com/
Allison has organized a team for the Miles For Moffitt event on May 15th to raise money for the Moffitt Cancer Center.  The blog explains it all and we would love to have you join us.
Thanks again for all you prayers and support, I know that Bunny can beat this.

Miles For Moffitt Update

I met with Karen Dalton who is the organizer of the walk on May 15th.  She is a wonderful person and is so excited about our participation.  This is the 5th year of the event and they expect 5000 people to attend.  All of the money raised goes directly to Moffitt for research to find a cure for cancer.  My goal is to raise $5000....so I am going to need your help!  Even if you can't walk, you can support us with a donation.

Donna came up with the team name.  Bunny's Carats.....because a cure is a girl's best friend!

I am going to have bunny ears for everyone and TShirts made for us with our Team Name and Slogan.  It should be a lot of fun!

You can register online at milesformoffitt.com
click the register now button
we are participating in the 5K
the team name is Bunny's Carats
Registration Fee is $23

You can donate online the same way.  If you can't figure it out, I will be happy to do it for you. Just send me an email adamsallison@mac.com

The local news station (Channel 10) is going to do a story about us probably one or two weeks before the event.  Hopefully, we can have a good size group "practicing" on the Bayshore that day with our Bunny ears and TShirts.

Thanks for all your help!

A Bunny Run

The Moffitt Cancer Center, is having a walk to raise money for cancer research on May 15th (the day after Bunny's birthday!).  I'd like to get a group of her friends together to form a team (complete with Bunny ears and matching tshirts) and walk in honor of Bunny.  Hopefully we can raise a bunch of money that will help find a cure!  If you can't make the walk you can support our team with a donation.  News Channel 10 is going to follow our progress so we might have a practice run on the Bayshore a few weeks before.  If you want to participate you can email me adamsallison@mac.com or call me 813-766-9520.  I will have more details as the date gets closer!   If you have any ideas for a team "name", I'd love some creative help!

We went to Bunny's encologist today and got some very good news.  Bunny's tumor marker for her pancreatic cancer went down 53% from her last blood test which was 3 weeks ago.  It is still high but going the right direction.  Thank you for all your prayers and support, they mean a lot to us.
